Q & A:

Isn't refinishing just a quick fix and will come off within a year?

There are many companies and products available for refinishing or reglazing your bathtub, and we assure you this is not the case with our company. Hard Tops of Lubbock uses a product exclusive to Hard Tops, and all refinishers have been trained by a company trainer with years of experience. The life expectancy of Hard Tops Coatings are15-20 years when care recommendations are followed.

When you spray the coating, doesn't the overspray get everywhere?

Hard Tops of Lubbock will mask off with professional tape and paper around the entire area being refinished. We also use drop cloths to protect your floor. We also can use an exhaust fan to extract fumes and overspray from the work area. We do ask all items be moved four feet from the work area, but in confined spaces, some overspray is expected, however it will clean up easily with a dry cloth.

A new bathtub is only $200-$300, how much does refinishing cost?

Although it may cost $300 to refinish a bathtub, consider the other costs associated with bathtub replacement: the additional cost of a licensed plumber, the additional cost to repair or replace a damaged floor or surrounding wall, the additional cost of removing a wall to remove and install a new bathtub... the actual cost of replacement can easily cost ten times what refinishing does.

If my tub has been reglazed and the coating is now coming off,
do I have to replace it?

No, replacement is still an option at this point. Hard Tops will remove the previous coating, and start over on cleaning and preparing the surface. Most coatings fail due to improper preparation, because there are oils and deposits still present on the surface. Our coatings last because we use a bonding agent to chemically bond our coating to a porcelain surface, or mechanically bond to fiberglass or acrylic surfaces.

My bathtub is brand new and I have a chip.
Do I have to refinish the entire tub?

Hard Tops can repair chips on a new bathtub, and sometimes in older tubs as well. The coating we use is a high gloss white or almond, so if the tub is dull, or the surface is worn or discolored,
the entire tub will ususally need to be refinished, however it will look like new again.

Care Instructions
to ensure the beauty and life of your refinished surface, follow the care instructions and call us if you have any questions at 806.793.6950

No water for 24 hours following the completion of the work to allow the coating to cure.

Only gentle cleansers for the first seven days, and only non-abrasive cleansers afterwards. We recommend foams or sprays wiped with a soft cloth.

Never use abrasive cleansers or scouring pads to clean refinished surfaces. Only soft materials.

A non-slip surface can be applied when the tub is refinished, if desired. Bathtub mats or stickers will trap water beneath and cause the coating to deteriorate quickly.

Do nut cut directly on countertops. Anything that would damage new formica will damage a refinished countertop.

Refinished surfaces may be discolored by hydrogen peroxide, hair dye, or undiluted bleach.

Monthly applications of lemon oil will extend the life of the refinished surface.

Refinishing or reglazing is a green option for those wanting to remodel without creating waste. Refinishing reduces waste by recycling the existing surface, instead of it going in the garbage. The new look is fresh, clean, and durable.
